Another Experiment

Posted in My Weight-Loss Journey by Rachel

Just when you think you’ve become ‘regular’ after exercising your butt off, your little ‘friend’ decides to show up a week early on a Tuesday morning. Why, why, why! The upside? Perhaps ‘the girls’ will reduce in size and stop hurting (…which does nothing for the running schedule!). Also, I am relieved to know I will not be riding the cotton pony for my 5K on the 25th. That could have been disastrous.

My calorie goal for this week is 1385/day (M-Th = 1300, F = 1500, Sa = 1600, Su = 1400). Yesterday, I consumed 1,005 calories and I did not feel a a lick of hunger. That could change at any moment, but I honestly feel pretty smashing. This is what I ate:

Breakfast:
Maple Yogurt (organic) – 140 cals

Lunch:
Salad with field greens, baby spinach, egg whites, grape tomatoes, smoked turkey, chickpeas, tortilla strips, and fresh squeezed lemon juice – 261 cals

Snack:
Dark Chocolate & Coconut Granola Bar – 120 cals

Dinner:
Pita pizzas made with two whole grain mini pitas (organic), 1/2 skim mozzarella cheese (organic), pizza sauce (organic), and chopped white onions – 340 cals

Snack:
Avocado Maki (6 pieces) w/ .5 teaspoon of soy sauce – 144 cals

I also drank about 100 oz of water.

I am not purposefully trying to ‘kill’ myself with restriction beyond the restriction. I’m just trying to do a better job at listening to my body and not eating out of boredom (which I still do). With the 1600/cal goal, I found myself eating when I wasn’t necessarily hungry just to ‘eat’ and to ‘reach’ my calorie ‘goal’. This is will be a good experiment for me. In most cases, it will require effort (and I like effort!) — perhaps yesterday was just a fluke.

Is 1,385 calories too few even though I have plenty of stored energy hanging off this body o’mine? What happens if I go lower (by chance)? Will I see a sick number on that scale or will it go up due to the restriction? Will I be able to reach my goal toward the end of the week? Will I be able to keep up with my exercise schedule even though I am eating fewer calories?

These are all questions I’m interested in finding answers to!
