Numbers = BFF4L

Posted in My Weight-Loss Journey by Rachel

I think I’m going to attempt to post a weekly snapshot of my calorie/macronutrient intake (generated via FitDay.com). Reason? I need to clean up my eating and drop my calories slightly since I am definitely burning fewer calories as of late. It makes sense. As I continue to lose weight, my body needs less energy to do ‘normal’ tasks, etc. Bastards!!

Anyhow. I have based these goals on numbers I’ve pulled from sources scattered throughout this vast interweb. They are simply guidelines I use to supplement my awareness and encourage me to make better food choices. I do not (and I repeat: do not) ‘count’ my marconutrients (read: I am not that crazy)! If I stay within my calorie allowance, the rest usually falls into place.

I would say that these stats are 95%+ accurate. I account for everything that has a label attached to it. When I eat something out of the ordinary, I do my best to compile the ingredients and add them to FitDay even if I don’t plan on reusing the data in the future. Of course, I am not always going to be able to find foods that are 100% compatible when I ‘stray off the path’, but I try to choose items that err on the higher side of the calorie scale, cross my fingers, and hope for the best. Doing so keeps me accountable and sane.

Here’s to ‘doing what you gotta go’ in order to stay ahead of the game. Next thing you know, I will be posting my weekly Cal/Exercise Log. Now that’s a lot of numbers.

I’d say I did pretty well last week. The fat/sodium numbers could come down a bit, but I don’t know. I’m stuck in that ‘protein is hype’ mindset right now. I haven’t been eating much meat (zero red meat and poultry only twice last week) and thus, have been consuming a bit more fat and carbs. At the same time, I still smell like an ammonia bomb after a brutal workout, so I’m not convinced that my carb in-take is too bad. My protein intake is lower than the insanely high ‘recommended daily allowance’ set by some jackass back in the early 1900′s, but I’m still alive. Perhaps I have all that aquarium food to thank. Mmm. Lots of little fishes in my belly.

Back to the point: Less calories + balanced diet = win.
