Going Pizzaless

Posted in My Weight-Loss Journey by Rachel

Although I am a big believer that no food should be totally ‘off-limits’, I’m officially on a pizza hiatus until October 1st. Yeah, I said it.

Pizza masochist begone!

Why?

Simple: over the past five days, I have consumed twelve slices of pizza. TWELVE. SLICES. OF. PIZZA. What kind of a weight-loss journey has this turned into? A bullshit one! Here comes the positive spin: I will out-do myself goal-wise by achieving the impossible — no pizza shall cross these lips until October 1st unless it’s home-made using only the finest and freshest ingredients. And! I have to document it (I’m talking pizza paparazzi here, people). Jar sauce? See ya! Pre-grated packaged cheese? Adios! If I want pizza, I’m going to have to work for it. No coveted Neapolitan pizza from Sweet Tomatoes. No crispy-crusted pizza from Imperial. No slices-as-big-as-your-face from Sal’s. NUNCA! NIL! NADA!

Not going to lie, I’m kind of looking forward to the challenge (mainly because consuming a trillion slices of pizza gave me the shits for three days).

  • OMG, youre brave! I love pizza too much! Good job and nice goal, though!

  • I’ve never commented on your blog (I’m a new reader), but I just had to say something when I read this post. I’ve made the very same deal with myself lately. If I want to eat one of my ‘i-can’t-stop-until-i’ve-eaten-the-whole-thing’ foods I need to work for it. I made pizza dough the other day for a popeye pizza, and it was HARD! I know that if I have to work for it that I won’t want it as much. Accessibility to food is huge for me. If I want a cupcake, I gotta make it from scratch. I look forward to hearing about how your self-imposed pizza embargo goes.

  • You may really surprise yourself! Good luck!

  • Pizza always has been my meal to overeat, and it’s so convenient to eat with friends and some beer. I should get back into making it at home, not going to make the dough, I use whole wheat pitas, make sauce from tomato paste, and shred cheese (mozz and hot pepper jack) once every month or two and keep in the freezer. Any and all veggies in house (broccoli, peppers, onions, herbs, whatev) go on it. And pepperoni, I’m almost ashamed to say, because I won’t tolerate whole wheat crust and all those veggies without it. It still tastes like health food, but I tolerate it.
